En una zona específica del Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca se han introducido vacas trashumantes. Mediante el pastoreo de esta zona se pretende controlar el crecimiento desmesurado del carrizo. Esta gestión tradicional se había perdido hace años y con la vuelta del ganado al Prat, al pastar sobre ellas, esperamos que se diversifiquen estas áreas creando un ecosistema heterogéneo.
Para que el ganado no invada otras zonas o puedan escapar del humedal, se han instalado pastores eléctricos. Estas vacas de raza asturiana han demostrado estar bien adaptadas a vivir en zonas húmedas sin presentar problemas hasta el momento en las pezuñas y manteniendo su peso durante sus primeros meses de adaptación.
Transhumant cattle have been introduced to a specific area of the Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca. Grazing in this area is expected to control the excessive growth of reed beds. This traditional method had been abandoned years ago, but the return of herds to the Prat we are confident that the terrain will regain its diversity and return to a heterogeneous ecosystem.
The cows are prevented from invading other areas or escaping from the wetland by means of electric fencing. This Asturian breed is known to be well adapted to marshy conditions, and to date have shown no signs of hoof damage or weight loss during the first months in this habitat.
