Experts and researchers from different countries will meet in one of the towns where the aquatic warbler’s habitat is being recovered in the Parque Natural del Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca through the LIFE Paludicola project.
Torreblanca, April 3rd, 2018
On April 21 and 22, Torreblanca will host a workshop of experts about threatened marsh birds, with a special focus on the aquatic warbler, a threatened species that will become the main focus of this event organized by Fundación Global Nature in collaboration with the Concejalía de Medio Ambiente.
Experts and researchers from Spain and Portugal will meet in the town where the wetland, a resting area for the aquatic warbler in its migration journey across the Parque Natural, is being restored through the LIFE Paludicola project. One of the main objectives of this encounter is to raise awareness about this project, its short, medium, and long-term goals, and its action plan.
The workshop will take place over two days. The first day will see the development of the more technical side, analyzing the current situation of the aquatic warbler and other marsh birds, the different plans in place for their recovery, and the conservation status of the habitats where this bird conducts its migration journey.
The second day will take place in Prat, where different activities have been scheduled so that people interested in the topic can learn more about the marsh birds we found in this environment. The activities will allow people to participate in the ringing campaign or visit the Parque Natural with a tour guide expert in ornithology.
The environmental council Carlos García pointed out that “we are finalizing the programming of this workshop, that will make Torreblanca into a dissemination and research setting. We are one of the 9 wetlands in Spain that collaborates in the LIFE Paludicola project, which places us as a place of interest for experts and researchers, which will allow us to showcase our Parque Natural.”
Fundación Global Nature and the Junta de Castilla y León develop the LIFE Paludicola project with the support of the financial instrument LIFE of the European Union, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food through Fundación Biodiversidad, the Generalitat Valenciana, the city council of Torreblanca, and the Infertosa company, with the collaboration of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.
