On 2 February, World Wetlands Day was celebrated at the La Nava lagoon in Palencia, as part of the LIFE Paludicola Project and in collaboration with the Natural Heritage Foundation of Castilla y León and with Casa del Parque de La Nava y Campos de Palencia.
The event consisted in a scientific bird ringing workshop, which drew some 40 attendees. Participants in the workshop shared this instructive task, guided by specialists, observing how the birds visiting the wetlands are ringed at this time of the year. The aim of this activity is to raise citizens’ awareness of the wetlands in general, and in particular of the aquatic warbler, a migratory species globally threatened that stops to rest at the wetlands of Tierra de Campos on its autumn migrations.
