Dentro de las acciones de conservación previstas dentro del proyecto LIFE Paludicola, se han empezado a desarrollar los trabajos necesarios para mejorar la gestión hídrica de una parte del Marjal del Moro.
Con esta acción se busca recuperar como humedal antiguas zonas de cultivos abandonados. Para ello es necesario retirar ciertas motas y así favorecer la conexión de puntos permanentes de agua con la nueva infraestructura hidráulica. Otra de las obras previstas es adecuar taludes para mejorar el tránsito de fauna. En los taludes se realizarán plantaciones de lirios (Iris pseudacorus) y masiega (Cladium mariscus) con el fin de revegetar con especies autóctonas de ribera que además favorecerán la sujeción del suelo. Por último, se realizará la limpieza mecánica y manual de las acequias que abastecerán de agua a la Marjal.
Las acciones tendrán lugar hasta el 14 de marzo, fecha límite para poder llevar a cabo estos trabajos debido al comienzo la época de nidificación de algunas especies que habitan el humedal.
As part of the conservation works included in the LIFE Paludicola Project, the necessary tasks to improve water management for a sector of the Marjal del Moro marshlands have commenced.
The targeted outcome is the reconversion to wetlands of abandoned farming areas. A number of mounds must be removed to re-connect areas permanently under water with the new hydraulic infrastructure. A further task is to re-work the embankments to allow animals to circulate through the marsh. These slopes will be planted with iris (Iris pseudacorus) and great fen-sedge (Cladium mariscus) thus recovering autochthonous riparian vegetation and ensuring soil retention. Lastly, the ditches and canals channelling water into the marsh will be cleared with mechanical and manual means.
These works will continue up to the deadline established on 14 March, when the nesting season begins for some of the species on the marsh.
